Blackstar Ball

Yesterday afternoon saw us gathering above Raven Park to enjoy some of the work of the amazing David Bowie. With a great selection of his work selected by Miss Eve, and a fantastic dance venue built by Anna, we danced and nattered and had lots of fun.

Photos were taken, all of which can be seen over on imgur. Here's a few highlights:

Many thanks to Miss Eve for a fantastic selection of music (and for all the effort it took to squish her Bowie collection down to just 2 hours), and to Anna for a great build (hopefully the first of many). Thanks also to everyone who came along.

Raven Park dance this Saturday

This Saturday it's time for another Raven Park dance and, given the recent news, there was only one thing we could do. Just two weeks ago we were celebrating the works and influences of artists we last in 2015; now we find ourselves wanting to do the same for an artist we just lost; one who is important to many on Raven Park.

For the second time in six months we're going to spend a couple of hours enjoying and exploring the works of David Bowie, this time in a dance we're calling...

The theme and feel for the dance is best explained by Anna (who suggested the theme and also built the ballroom to go with it): "It's a Labyrinth-inspired masquerade ball with a weird, arty, fabulous, magical, theatrical, sinister fairytale dress code." So, it's that simple: dress in something you think best matches the feel of the theme. Show off your arty side, your fabulous side, your sinister side, whatever takes your fancy.

Fallen Heroes dance

Yesterday afternoon saw the return of Raven Park dances after taking a short break over the holiday period. We returned with the theme of "Fallen Heroes", the idea being that we'd celebrate the works of artists that were lost during 2015. Miss Eve was kind enough to supply the perfect build (a Rolls in a swimming pool -- nothing's more rock'n'roll than that, right?) as well as a brilliant musical selection to keep us all entertained for 2 hours.

Plenty of photos were taken, which can all be seen over on imgur. Here's a few highlights:

Many thanks for everyone who came along, and especially to Miss Eve for providing the set and the music. Special thanks also go to everyone who encouraged Anna to model her very rock'n'roll skirt. ;)

Raven Park dance this Saturday

This Saturday we're back for the first Raven Park dance of 2016. To kick the year off we thought we'd take one look back at the last year and, specifically, remember those who have influenced us, and still influence us, who were lost in 2015. We'll be celebrating the works of the likes of Pratchett, Lemmy, Taylor, Nimoy, King (either of them) and many more.

Feel free to dress in a way influenced by the theme, or just come as you are/want and enjoy what's bound to be a wild ride through Miss Eve's music catalogue.
